When was the last time you really played? No, I'm not talking about online games (no offense if farmtown is your thing). I mean real spontaneous, uninhibited, childlike play - the kind of freedom you had when you were a little kid and you could do anything or be anything, simply because you dreamed it was possible. If you can't remember when that was - well you've probably lost your sense of play and right now is as good a time as any to reacquaint yourself with that fun-loving, free spirited, inner you!
I know what you're thinking.. you can't do it because you might look foolish, silly or just plain dumb. We make excuses that we just don't have time to play or playing is not what 'grownups' do. Well, here's the thing.. children play in nearly everything they do and they're HAPPY. The secret to finding your playful self again is to let go, abandon your excuses and risk looking foolish!
Here are some ways to get back your playful self and have some fun just being you;)
- Set your intentions on having a fun-filled day! Decide that in whatever you are doing.. You will have as much fun as possible and PLAY while doing it. It's true that most people are not happy because they don't intend to be. Even in a mundane job - you can find the fun, by being it.
- Don't be afraid of looking foolish. BE FOOLISH. If you're going to have fun playing.. you may as well do it with abandon. We've all heard 'Dance like no one's watching.. well for some of us, it could be dance like everyone's watching. You never know who you may get to join your infectious fun. Who cares if they're laughing at you.. at least they're laughing!!
- Force that smile if you have to! Even a forced smile can't help but turn into a true grin. Having more fun at work or home, sharing a smile with the people around you will make you more fun to be around and encourage others to 'play' along. Not to mention.. it's so attractive;)
Okay.. so you've probably imagined yourself as a child while reading this, laughing and carrying on.. tumbling, swinging, dancing, singing, roaring, exploring, making funny faces, making everything a race! Well here's something, the next time you look in the mirror, stick your tongue out and wink at the playful spirit in you - Go on and say it, 'Ready or not, here I come!'
